Ever get the feeling Madonna just doesn’t like us? She’s only toured here once, in 1993: that’s over 20 years, eight albums, four children, two toyboys, one husband and zero wrinkles ago. Since then Australian fans have been routed around on five straight tours — she really doesn’t need the money or frequent flyer points.

There was the Confessions tour skipping Australia in 2006. Once it ended, Madonna told Australian fans she had planned to come but “I have to get my kids back into school in England and they are, as you can understand, my most important priority. The important thing to remember is that I’m not retiring anytime soon and I am gonna get to Australia as soon as I can.”
2006年のThe Confessions tourでオーストラリアを除外した時にはconfession（告白）があったわね。ツアーが終わった時、Madonnaはオーストラリアのファンに来豪するつもりだったけど「イギリスで子供達を学校に行かせないといけなかったの。それに分かってくれると思うけど、子供達は私にとって一番の存在だから。大前提として、私はまだまだ辞めるつもりはないから、できるだけ早く来豪するつもりよ。」
She blew Australia off again in 2008/2009, choosing to tour Europe twice on the same Sticky and Sweet tour, rather than Australia once. Her promoter blamed the global financial crisis, Madge said nothing. At the time her manager told angry Australian fans (many of whom had spent a small fortune going to her because she wouldn’t come to them) ‘’Madonna really needs to go to Australia. We are long overdue for a trip Down Under and apologise for that. It will happen.’’
彼女は2008年ー2009年のツアーでもオーストラリアをすっ飛ばして同じSticky and Sweet Tourでヨーロッパを２度廻った。オーストラリアには一度も来ていないのに。プロモーターはGFCを言い訳にしたけど、Madge (Madonnaのニックネーム）は何も言わなかった。当時、彼女のマネージャーが激怒しているオーストラリア人ファン（マドンナが来豪しないから多くのファンは大金をかけて彼女を追いかけていたため）にこう言った。「Madonnaは確かにオーストラリアへ行くべきです。Down Under (オーストラリアの別名）へのツアーが長い間放置されているし、その件については謝ります。必ずやりますから」
Then it was third time unlucky. First her touring company Live Nation confirmed the MDNA tour would end in Australia in early 2013. Venues were booked (but not announced) and fans were getting ready to pay big bucks to watch her showcase her least successful album in years. Then Madge snubbed Australia again, first giving no reason, then, after a fan backlash, belatedly played the parent card. Again. Even though son Rocco was actually on stage during the tour, even though it didn’t stop her touring for months elsewhere and even though everyone from Elton John to Pink manages to tour Australia quite happily with the use of family and staff to look after their kids for those few hours on stage.
そして、２度あることは３度あった。まずツアー会社であるLive Nationが2013年始めにオーストラリアでMDNA tourを締めることを確約した。（未発表だったものの）場所も決まっていて、ファン達は近年の中で一番売れなかったアルバムを披露するツアーを見るために大金を払う気満々だった。それなのに、Madgeはまたオーストラリアを見放した。最初は理由もなし、そしてファンの反発後、遅れて親としての言い訳をした。また。実は息子のRoccoはツアー中ステージ上にいたにもかかわらず、その理由が何ヶ月も他の場所をツアーするのには問題とならなかったのにも関わらず、Elton JohnやPinkのように他の人たちはステージにいる数時間の間、子供を家族やスタッフに預けてオーストラリアでツアーをすることを普通にやっているのにも関わらず。
“I know the last time I was on tour I missed Australia as well,” Madge said. “But, like the last time, my children are my first priority. I have two scales that I have to weigh in front of me — my job as a singer and an entertainer, and my job as a mother. And at the end of the year I really feel that I would be an irresponsible parent if I didn’t stop my tour and spend time with them.
「前回のツアーでもオーストラリアには行けなかったことは分かっているわ」とMadge。「でも前回と同じで子供達が最優先なのよ。歌手やエンターテイナーとしての役割と、母親としての役割の両方を天秤にかけないといけないの。それで年末になってツアーを辞めて子供達との時間を過ごさないと無責任な親になってしまうわって真に感じたのよ。」
“I know a lot of you are angry with me, upset with me, disappointed … please forgive me, and know that when I do come to Australia I will have made the wait worth your while, and I will put on the greatest show on earth.”
